Good News is the the brain and back MRI’s showed nothing unusual. But the nerves in my neck are inflamed. So it looks like I get an epidural in the neck, just one, to clam down the nerves. It is suppose to relieve the headaches and leg/toes problems.

  • Not Just in my Head

Well I saw Dr Bhatia of UCI Medical yesterday. Seems the stenosis in my neck warrants surgery, according to him. He thinks Laminaplasty will correct the pressure on my spinal cord which is the root of my problems (physical problems that is). a good explanation of the procedure is on Dr Bhatia’s web site. http://www.irvinespine.com/orthopedics/videos.html Look at the video on Cervical Laminaplasty

Because I am having constant headaches and now my right leg and toes have numbness and tingling, I get another enjoyable trip to the MRI machine for a head and complete back scan, yee haw. That is going to happen on Friday the 5th, stay tuned boys and girls.

  • Pain in the Neck

With the joys of getting older, the body decides it is time rear up and let you know that even though age is a state of mind, flesh and bone have their say. Since the fall I have had tingling and numbness in my left index finger. Figured it was just a pinched nerve and it wasn’t that bad, so I let it go. Finally I had enough visited my Orthopedic Doctor. Now that is a sign of age when you have an Orthopedic Doctor. Seems it isn’t a pinch nerve – but rather some discs bulging at C4, C5, C6, mix in some stenosis, which is close enough to the spinal cord and is the culprit of the nerve pressure effecting my finger.
Today I went in for an EMG and they found no nerve damage and ruled out carpal tunnel. So yes the tingling is coming from neck.
Have been referred to an Orthopedic Surgeon. Asked why an Ortho Surgeon vs a Neurologist, and the answer I received from my Doctor was, Orthopedic Surgeons specialize in in the Spine and understand what causes the pressure, while a Neuro Surgeon specializes in nerves throughout the body. Because this is coming from my neck, best place to start.

    Love

An elderly gent was invited to an old friends home for dinner one evening. He was impressed by the way his buddy preceded every request to his wife with endearing terms such as: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Pumpkin, etc. The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love.

While the wife was in the kitchen , the man leaned over to his host, ‘I think it’s wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your wife those loving pet names’.

The old man hung his head.. ‘I have to tell you the truth, he said, Her name slipped my mind about 10 years ago ,and I’m scared to death to ask the cranky old bitch what her name is.

This is a classic Credence Clearwater Song. Didn’t realize I had the lyrics wrong all these years.

  • Back to Work

Posted on April 28th, 2009 Bill No comments

    Well Day 2 went fine.

Yesterday I went to back to work. Didn’t even mind the traffic on the way in. Felt strange to be wearing big boy clothes and looking like member of the white collar working class. Made it through the entire day, no problems (physically).

Of course there are issues at work that need to be addressed, big sigh. Guess that implies I am needed at work.

Seems I can eat anything I want again without getting upset stomachs or living on protonix. Maybe the Surgeon was right, guess that gallbladder had been bugging me for a while. Now I just need the “holes” to heal and get back to playing roller hockey.
